Factors Affecting a Harmonious Workplace

A good and harmonious working environment is one where all workers are treated with formality, respect and admiration. It is where no one is subject to harassment by manner that is related to religious belief, political opinion or any other factors.

The truth is that there is no single secret in creating a harmonious and serene workplace. However, there are numerous explanations why some workplaces are more harmonious than others. The following are factors geared towards a harmonious workplace: (www.equalityni.org)

  1. Open Communication One of the best ways to have a good relation within the workplace is to encourage dialogue and open communication. This should not just be amongst colleagues but between staff and management also. Encouraging the workforce to express ideas and views as well as suggesting improvements is a great way of achieving this. Gaining feedback on performance, both as a team and in 1 to 1 sessions as well as giving workers well-defined, and realistic, objectives and deadlines, where they are suitable to the role, also help.
  2. Establishing a Good Work/Life Balance Work can become horrendous if employers are only interested in themselves and making as much profit as possible without giving any regard to the needs of their staff. Yes, it’s perfectly adequate to expect your workers to give you 100% support when they’re at work but it’s also important to know that they have a life outside of the workplace too. Creating a welcoming environment is a very positive step.
  3. Positive Reinforcement The practice of rewarding desirable employee behavior in order to strengthen that behavior adds color and meaning in the workplace. For example, when you praise an employee for doing a good job, you increase the likelihood of him/her doing that job very well again. Positive reinforcement is a simple and effective way to lay the foundations of a harmonious working environment as it does what it says on the tin – reinforces positivity.
  4. Random Act of Kindness Performing random acts of kindness can help improve the atmosphere at workplace. When we do something nice for our co-worker, he or she will truly appreciate it and may pay it forward by performing an act of kindness for someone else. Simply asking a co-worker how their evening or weekend was, is a wonderful start.

A harmonious environment is what every employee or employer desired. It is where everyone feels important and given opportunity to excel in the area entrusted to him/her without getting envious to the position of others. Working harmoniously with others results to a productive and successful workplace. It is where each one work hand in hand to achieve the goal set by the department for the welfare of the clientele. The true essence of being a public servant is service to people with honestly and goodwill.
